Who Said Gamification Was "Expensive"

Even the smallest opportunity can be put to use to generate engagement, and if the spice is the game, Bingo! Let me walk you through a simple recipe for promoting a conference in a few hours.

Ingredients:

  • Free tools: Twitter Analytics, Google Analytics
  • A simple mechanic: In this case, a countdown clock
  • Game rules: Built as we go
  • Objective: Get a conference in front of a target audience
  • Cost: €0

It all starts with an email, and after the email comes the challenge on Twitter. The reason? To promote the 4th edition of the Gamification World Congress

The result: a simple mechanic, so simple it makes you want to repeat it and expand it for this purpose and for any other.

Learnings:

  • The mechanic allows for several repetitions in a day, and as many as there are days left until the conference takes place.
  • Each interaction promotes the conference (a screenshot means a new impression: a reminder of the date and time).
  • Each screenshot requires a visit to the page, and therefore the opportunity to hit the user with new information if you're able to personalize the content by cookie.
  • Solving the challenge is only the beginning, because in itself, the first 5 hours already deliver serious reach
